Over 53,600 people have been injured and 20,258 people have died in Gaza since October 7, according to a report released yesterday by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

A Ministry spokesman, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, estimated earlier in December that women and children made up 70% of those deceased.

The number of individuals remaining buried beneath debris and the lack of gasoline or other means to aid in their rescue constitute an estimate of the overall death toll in the besieged coastal enclave. The Ministry calculated earlier in December that 7,780 persons were missing and thought to be dead under debris.

Drone strike off the west coast of India on a cargo vessel connected to Israel

NEW DELHI: A British maritime security company said that on Saturday, a drone struck an Israeli-affiliated merchant vessel in the Arabian Sea off the coast of India, causing damage but no casualties.

According to Ambrey, the incident on the chemical product tanker flying the Liberian flag happened 200 kilometres (about 120 miles) southwest of the Indian port of Veraval. The information on the vessel’s connections to Israel was left out.

According to Ambrey, the drone strike hit the stern and started a fire within the ship, which was eventually put out without claiming any lives. According to the company, there was some structural damage to the ship and some water was brought on board.

The ship was connected to Israel. At the time, Ambrey stated, she was headed for India and had made her last contact from Saudi Arabia.

According to a naval official, the shipping business requested help, and the Indian Navy reacted.

According to a statement, the Indian Navy had sent out an aircraft that passed over the cargo vessel. The crew’s and the ship’s safety was determined. Additionally, a warship has been sent to offer support as needed.

After assaults in the Red Sea since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, major international shipping companies have diverted their boats. A longer and more expensive path is taken by many ships to avoid the southernmost point of Africa.

Nobody took ownership of Saturday’s attack right away.

The two anti-ship ballistic missiles fired by Houthi rebels in Yemen on Saturday were aimed towards international commerce lanes in the Southern Red Sea, but no ships were reported to have been hit, according to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.

Four unmanned aerial drones fired from Houthi-controlled parts of Yemen were shot down by the USS Laboon, the ship the drones were headed towards, between 3 and 8 p.m. local time, according to U.S. Central Command. No one was hurt or property was damaged in the incident.

At about 8 p.m. local time, USS Laboon then focused on reports from two other ships in the Southern Red Sea that were being attacked, according to CENTCOM.

According to CENTCOM, a Houthi one-way attack drone almost passed the M/V Blaamanen, a chemical/oil tanker owned and operated by Norwegians and flying the Norwegian flag. According to CENTCOM, the M/V Saibaba, an Indian-flagged crude oil tanker owned by Gabon, claimed that a one-way attack drone had struck it.

The strikes, which are the 14th and 15th on commercial marine vessels by the Houthis since October 17, caused no injuries to be reported from either ship.

Many large firms are stopping shipments across the Southern Red Sea as a result of the Houthi rebels’ ongoing missile attacks on ships in the area.

Over the phone today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden talked about Israel’s military operation in Gaza.

A White House readout of the call states that Biden emphasised the significance of defending people in Gaza, especially those who are aiding the humanitarian efforts. According to the White House, Biden also stressed how important it is to let those civilians to safely evacuate regions where violence is still going on.

The leaders also talked about how crucial it is that Hamas releases all of the captives that are still in their custody.
