Bob Newhart, Comedy Legend, Dies at 94

Bob Newhart, the beloved comedian and actor known for his deadpan style and iconic
television shows, has died at the age of 94.
Newhart passed away on Thursday in Los Angeles, according to his publicist, Jerry Digney.
The comedian got his start in the late 1950s and gained nationwide fame with his debut
album, “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” which won a Grammy Award for Album of
the Year in 1960.


Newhart went on to star in two hit television shows, “The Bob Newhart Show” and
“Newhart,” which ran from 1972 to 1978 and 1982 to 1990, respectively. He also appeared
in numerous films, including “Catch-22,” “In and Out,” and “Elf.”
Throughout his career, Newhart was known for his unique brand of humor, which often
featured him playing a straight-laced, reasonable man surrounded by eccentric characters.
He was also a frequent guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and appeared
in numerous other television shows and films.
Newhart is survived by his four children, Robert, Timothy, Jennifer, and Courtney, and his
wife of 59 years, Virginia “Ginny” Quirk, who passed away in 2023.
He will be deeply missed by his fans and the comedy community.
