CPEC: A Game-Changer for Pakistan’s Economy

Islamabad, Pakistan – Contrary to recent propaganda, the China-Pakistan Economic
Corridor (CPEC) is poised to revolutionize Pakistan’s economy, according to a leading
columnist.
In an opinion piece published today, Hussain H. Zaidi argued that CPEC is a vital
component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), aimed at enhancing regional
connectivity, promoting trade, and driving economic growth in Pakistan.
Zaidi noted that CPEC has already achieved significant milestones, including the
development of the Gwadar Port and the New Gwadar International Airport. He also
highlighted that Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan has increased
substantially since 2015, making China the largest source of FDI in the country.

The columnist emphasized that CPEC has the potential to transform Pakistan into a trade
and transport hub, aligning with the country’s strategic location and ambitions. He urged
policymakers to recognize the benefits of CPEC and BRI, rather than perpetuating baseless
propaganda.
Zaidi’s opinion piece comes as Pakistan’s political parties have expressed support for
CPEC, ensuring continuity of Pak-China strategic cooperation. The project is expected to
play a significant role in shaping Pakistan’s economic future.
