Hawaii police report that a homeless woman gives birth on the sidewalk, drags the infant by the umbilical cord, and then tries to flee.

According to Hawaii police, a homeless woman gave birth on the street, dragged her infant by the cord, and then attempted to flee the scene.

The incident happened on Tuesday at approximately 5 p.m. in the Hilo area, close to Mamo Street and Keawe Street.

According to Island News, police were called in response to a report that the mother was dragging the infant down the street, according to Police Captain Rio Amon-Wilkins.

When the fire department personnel arrived, they promptly severed the baby’s umbilical cord. After the umbilical cord was severed, the woman attempted to leave the area, but police soon located her.

Although the infant was not moving, first responders reported that she was breathing, and they took her to Hilo Medical Center.

The infant girl was deemed to be in good health and uninjured by medical personnel. Child Protective Services was given custody of her.

Amon-Wilkins claims that the woman was first accused of abandoning a child but was later freed following medical attention.

He claimed that both the police and the locals knew her well.

Because she frequently walks into the middle of traffic, a local security guard told Island News that she had lived in the area for more than ten years and had once been struck by a car. The woman probably wasn’t even aware that she was pregnant, he continued.

“Fortunately, despite initial reports to the contrary, the baby was not seriously hurt in this incident. According to what the doctors have told us, the baby girl is in good condition, Amon-Wilkins continued.

All bystanders who may have seen the incident are being asked to come forward and speak with the police.
