In a small Tennessee town, Chick-fil-A loses the battle over the proposed “mega” restaurant.

Plans for Chick-fil-A featured a restaurant spanning more than 6,000 square feet and a sizable indoor play area.

Chick-fil-A’s plan to construct a “mega” restaurant in a Tennessee small town was shelved when locals voiced opposition over traffic issues.

Collierville, Tennessee, has about 51,000 residents. Jennifer Casey, the town’s public information officer, told Fox News Digital that the town’s officials rejected the larger, newer restaurant.

The well-known chicken restaurant company intended to construct a 6,110-square-foot eatery with a 522-square-foot patio.

In addition, there would be two drive-thrus with space for forty-three cars, a 300 square foot playground, and an employee meeting area in the new restaurant.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen rejected it by a vote of 5 to 1 on Monday.

Due to traffic issues, Casey stated that the “overall sentiment” was that the location was inappropriate for a new restaurant.

Casey clarified that locals were worried about traffic and congestion because the restaurant would be accessed via Bray Station, a two-lane road, which was located next to the restaurant’s proposed site.

Chick-fil-A’s next move, according to Collierville Town Planner Jaime Groce, will be to submit a revised proposal that “fully complies” with the town’s requirements.

“We hope Chick-fil-A will keep making investments in our community because they are a fantastic corporate citizen. The next stage for them is to submit a site plan for a location that satisfies every requirement set forth by the town, according to Groce.

“That site plan would go back through the public planning process, which means being reviewed by the staff, Planning Commission, and Design Review Commission before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen would see it again,” she stated.

Fox News Digital reached out to Chick-fil-A for comment, but they didn’t reply right away.
