Jon Marks Shakes Up Radio World with Unexpected 94 WIP Exit Announcement!

Huge RADIO Conflicts update for ya. On Monday’s midday show, Jon Imprints reported his WIP takeoff, saying this, to some extent:

“I referenced this two or multiple times here, throughout the past year furthermore, I’ve been doing a great deal of contemplating my future here at WIP. These are discussions I’ve had with the executives, with Bar Lakin and David Yadgaroff, even with you. The Imprints and Reese show is astounding, the achievement that we’ve had, more than 6 years at this point that we’ve been cooperating, I’ve been at WIP right around 7 years, and what we’ve done in 6 years, the local area that we’ve made, the show that we’ve made has been absolutely astonishing. It came time where I expected to make a (drawn out agreement) obligation to the show and the station rather than going year to year, which is the thing I’ve been doing the most recent few years. Furthermore, however extraordinary as the show may be, everything held returning to the hours that I’m working. I don’t work until 10 or 12 PM, yet I’m not returning home on most evenings until 7:30. As my children age, I’m feeling the loss of this multitude of exercises – softball, soccer, b-ball, even supper consistently. Since my children have been alive I’ve been working this shift. Also, I needed to ask myself ‘is this something I could see myself accomplishing for the following five years?’ The station and show merit the responsibility from someone. It was a tough choice and something I inside grappled with for quite a while. Also, subsequent to conversing with the executives and chatting with you, and (the board was agreeable and asked what they could do)… I settled on the hard decision to make the Imprints and Reese Show and WIP. My last show is Wednesday. It’s an undeniably challenging choice.”

Marks was reaching the finish of his agreement, and without any fresh insight about an augmentation, it was clear where this was going.
The most inquisitive thing about Jon choosing to leave is that his midday show with Ike Reese and Jack Fritz is an evaluations beast. It was reliably the #1 or #2 games live radio program in Philadelphia, fighting just with WIP’s all’s morning show for Nielsen matchless quality.

Marks approached WIP from 97.5 the Enthusiast in 2017, initially working the 6 to 10 p.m. shift recently held by Brian “Slime” Haddad. After Chris Carlin’s New York exit, Jon was matched with Ike Reese, and the pair clashed with Mike Missanelli prior to pulling endlessly in Nielsen’s men 25 to 54 classification. In the last couple of evaluations periods, Imprints and Reese significantly increased or quadrupled The Best Show Of all time? on 97.5 the Devotee.

Two things I see as fascinating:

Marks leaving a famous and effective show
WIP supplanting each of the three fundamental dayparts in under a year
RE: point number 1, it takes a guts to leave a drive time shift that endlessly wins huge. I do not know how much cash Jon was making, yet P.M. drive on 94 WIP is a superb stage to have. Jon makes reference to family, obviously. That generally must be need #1. Yet, it’s as yet a challenging task to leave. (he referenced later in the discussion with Ike that he could utilize a difference in pace)

To point number 2, both the morning show and noontime show were re-worked when Angelo Cataldi resigned, and keeping in mind that the majority of WIPs ongoing moves add up to inside reshuffling (Joe Giglio, Joe DeCamara, Jon Ritchie, and so on), the WIP setup is completely different than it was about a year prior. No biggie however, in light of the fact that they keep on ruling 97.5 the Fan, so it’s practically similar to it doesn’t significantly make any difference what WIP does as of now. They frolic. Pole Lakin and the other Audacy chiefs have effectively directed WIP out of the Angelo period without even a blip on the radar.

Who replaces Marks? That is a different post for some other time. Meanwhile:
