Kargil Vijay Diwas 2024: PM Modi Honors Fallen Heroes, Launches Shinkun La Tunnel Project

Drass, Ladakh – Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the Kargil War at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh, on the 25th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

In a solemn ceremony, PM Modi honored the sacrifices of the Indian armed forces, who fought valiantly to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War, which was fought in 1999.

After paying tribute to the fallen heroes, PM Modi virtually launched the Shinkun La Tunnel Project, which aims to provide all-weather connectivity to Leh and boost economic development in Ladakh. The project consists of a 4.1 km long Twin-Tube tunnel, which will be constructed at an altitude of around 15,800 feet on the Nimu – Padum – Darcha Road.

 

President Droupadi  Murmu and  Defence  Minister Rajnath Singh also paid their tributes to the fallen soldiers of the Kargil War, saluting their bravery and sacrifice.

The Kargil Vijay Diwas is a celebration of the Indian armed forces’ valor and a reminder of the country’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
