Microsoft has announced the addition of an artificial intelligence (AI) key, marking the largest update to its keyboards in thirty years.
With the key, users of new Windows 11 PCs will be able to utilize Microsoft’s AI tool, Copilot.
The AI powering Copilot’s functions is OpenAI, in which Microsoft has a significant stake.
In 2023, it included AI into further products like Microsoft 365 and Bing search.

Copilot assists users with tasks including email writing, image creation, and searching.
Microsoft executive vice president Yusuf Mehdi called the change a “transformative” moment and compared it to the introduction of the Windows key almost thirty years ago in a blog post announcing it.
It would “simplify” and “amplify” the user experience, he continued.
It is anticipated that the new keyboards will appear on new models in February.
Starting next week in Las Vegas, Microsoft will present a few gadgets that have the Copilot key at the CES tech exhibition.
Copilot could write emails, make presentations, and summarize meetings when it was combined with Office 365 applications like Teams, Word, and PowerPoint.
Additionally, Bing, a search engine, now features it.
The largest search engine in the world, Google, employs an artificial intelligence system called Bard.
But it was Microsoft’s partner OpenAI who debuted ChatGPT, a potent AI tool, in 2022, sending competitors rushing to produce their own iterations.
On OpenAI’s GPT-4 big language model, Copilot is built.
