Part-time host Jon Stewart returns to The Daily Show in preparation for the election.

After nine years, entertainment and arts reporter Jon Stewart is unexpectedly returning to host The Daily Show one night a week during the US election campaign.

Before departing Comedy Central in 2015, Stewart took over the network’s late-night slot in 1999 and transformed it into one of the most significant topical shows on US TV.

After Trevor Noah, his successor, resigned in 2022, the producers were unable to find a long-term replacement.

Until the election in November, Stewart will host on Monday nights starting in February.

According to reports, he will oversee the show until 2025 and serve as executive producer as well.

President and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy said, “Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season.”

“With his sharp wit and ability to cut through the hollow rhetoric, Jon is the ideal person to bring much-needed clarity in this era of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics.”

Starting in 2003, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart was the recipient of the Emmy Award for best variety series ten times in a row.

Following his departure, Stewart served as executive producer of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and hosted The Problem With Jon Stewart on Apple TV+.

The Daily Show will be hosted by correspondents Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, and Ronny Chieng for the remainder of the week after he returns.
