Christmas Eve shooting at a Colorado mall left one person dead and three injured, according to authorities. This is at least the second time in two days that shootings have occurred at a US shopping center as customers try to finish their holiday shopping.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, a dispute broke out between two groups before there was shooting on Sunday at the Citadel Mall in Colorado Springs.
Officers were called shortly after 4:30 p.m. on a predicted to be the second biggest shopping weekend of the year, behind Black Friday, when holiday shoppers made their last-minute purchases. Just one day prior, on Saturday, gunfire rang out at an Ocala, Florida mall, sending shoppers fleeing for their lives. That was the day of the Colorado shooting. Another indication of how commonplace gun violence has become in US daily life is the killing of one person and the injury of another.
In Colorado, two males “suffering from at least one gunshot wound each” were rushed to nearby hospitals in critical condition, while one man was discovered dead in the mall, according to a post made by the police on X, the previous Twitter platform.
Police also said that a woman was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The police department declared the mall to be “cleared and closed.” “At this time, there is no known threat to the community.”
