Russian Strikes Hit Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, Killing Dozens

A devastating wave of missile strikes launched by Russia has hit cities across Ukraine,
including a children’s hospital in Kyiv, killing at least 36 people and injuring 140 others.

The Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital, Ukraine’s largest pediatrics facility, sustained major
damage in the attack, with two people killed and many more feared trapped under the
rubble.
It was like in a film, with a big light and then an awful sound said Dr. Lesia Lysytsia, a doctor
at the hospital. “One part of the hospital was destroyed, and there was a fire in another. It’s
really very damaged – maybe 60-70% of the hospital.
Patients, including young children with IV drips, were evacuated from the hospital as
rescuers worked to search for survivors.
The attack on the hospital has been widely condemned by Ukraine’s allies, with EU foreign
policy chief Josep Borrell accusing Russia of “ruthlessly targeting Ukrainian civilians.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, said that 36 people
had been killed and 140 injured in the strikes, which also hit other cities including Dnipro,
Kryvyi Rih, Sloviansk, and Kramatorsk.
The Russian bombardment comes as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Moscow for
a two-day state visit, where he is due to hold talks with President Vladimir Putin.
The attack on the children’s hospital has sparked outrage and calls for a stronger Western
response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
