Woman detained for stealing $2,500 worth of quenchers from Stanley cups

A woman was detained on suspicion of attempting to steal $2,500 (£1,965) worth of Stanley cups from a store in California.

Staff confronted the 23-year-old, but he refused to pay and stuffed the items into a car, according to the police.

On TikTok, the Stanley cup—more especially, the Adventure Quencher Travel Tumbler—has become extremely popular.

More than seven billion people have viewed the #Stanleycup hashtag globally, and the craze has prompted several attempts at breaking the law.

A man was seen leaping over a Starbucks counter in a well-known recent video, attempting to take a hot pink limited edition flask.

Why is TikTok going crazy for Stanley water cups?

Roseville, a suburb of Sacramento, the state capital of California, reports that its police department was called to a theft after a local store’s employees noticed a woman loading a shopping cart with water bottles into the trunk of a car.

According to the police statement, “the suspect refused to stop for staff and stuffed her car with the stolen merchandise.” Traffic police also stopped the car as it attempted to turn onto a nearby highway.

When the car was searched, 65 Stanley cups were found.

Any potential lawbreakers were forewarned by the police department.

The statement said, “We strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits, even though Stanley Quenchers are all the rage.”

William Stanley Junior initially created reusable cups in 1913, marketing them as “unbreakable.” Two years ago, eco-aware, health-conscious, and frequently teenage Tiktokers took a liking to them.

It seems that some US stores are experiencing chaos due to the recent limited editions of the quenchers.

Videos on TikTok captured overnight lines and a frantic rush to purchase the $54.50 (£42.99) cups at a Target store.
