ITV presenter Kate Garraway’s spouse has been in and out of the hospital after catching Covid-19 in March 2020, and he is currently listed as being in “very serious condition”.
Derek Draper, 56, was a former political strategist who suffered severe consequences from the illness that have left his organs permanently damaged.
It was reported on Sunday that he was back in the hospital following yet another setback.
ITV co-stars of Garraway have expressed their sympathies to the family.
Charlotte Hawkins, host of ITV’s Good Morning Britain, stated: “We wanted to start with an update.” It’s possible that you saw in the news over the weekend that Kate’s husband, Derek, is currently in a very bad situation.”
Richard Madeley, the co-host, said: “We just want to let Derek, Kate and of course the whole family know we are all here thinking of them, and we know many of you are as well, and that all of us send them our very, very best wishes at what is a very, very difficult time.”
Hawkins went on, “That’s true. From all of us, lots of love.”
Kate Garraway, who was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2023, is pictured with her spouse Derek Draper as well as her parents, Gordon and Marilyn Garraway.
Garraway said in April 2021 that Draper had left the hospital after spending more than a year there.
At that time, she said, “He can’t really move.” “Yes, we do require a great deal of assistance. And it’s not simply assistance with taking care of him; you can probably tell that I haven’t slept much because the care is provided around-the-clock.
“I’ll take it easy; I’m just aware that this is a brand-new team right now. Thus, he’s probably grown accustomed to the hospital staff, but now he’s working with a new team that is assisting him in getting better.”It will require significant tweaking.”
In the ITV documentary Finding Derek, the family’s experience adjusting to a new way of life because of his unique disease was documented. The movie examined Draper’s illness and how it affected the couple’s two kids, Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11.
In September, the show took home a National Television Award.
