Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert, in a recent Walmart commercial, were back as the “Mean Girls.”

The reason for Rachel McAdams’ decision to turn down the chance to play Regina George again is become public. The actress discussed her decision to turn down an advertising starring Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, and Lindsay Lohan as their various Mean Girls roles in an interview with Variety.

“To be quite honest, I wasn’t too excited to be in a commercial. I’m not sure. “A movie sounded amazing, but I’ve never done advertisements, so it just didn’t feel like my thing,” McAdams said. “In addition, I had no idea that anybody else was taking part. I would always love to get out with my Plastics and be a part of a Mean Girls reunion, even if I found that out later.”

In reference to her choice to back out of the upcoming Mean Girls musical film, McAdams said, “It was challenging to execute the concepts Tina [Fey] and I kind of experimented with. I would have done everything she desired. I think the direction it took will be fantastic, and I can’t wait to see it.”

After the Mean Girls-themed commercial aired, ET spoke with Chabert about playing Gretchen Wieners again.

“It was so much fun to step back into Gretchen’s shoes and to be with Lindsay and Amanda and spend the whole day together,” she said. It seems like the point at which everything completes a circle. After nearly two decades, we are finally all mothersIt was really lovely to be together again.”

A “sequel would be amazing,” but for now, Chabert is simply glad they were able to work on the commercial together, she said ahead of the film’s 20th anniversary. “I’m so thankful that we had that experience and got a chance to do that,” she said.
